What is BPMN 2.0?

BPMN 2.0 (Business Process Model and Notation) is a standard for describing business processes as diagrams of tasks, events and gateways. It is maintained by the Object Management Group and published as ISO/IEC 19510.

How it works.

A BPMN model shows who does what, in which order, and where the flow branches or waits. Version 2.0 also defines an XML format, so that a process drawn in one tool can be opened or executed in another.

Why it matters.

A shared notation lets business and technical teams read the same process, and the XML format avoids locking a process into one vendor's tool.

How Corlogic uses it.

Corlogic's process runtime moves work through tasks, gateways, events and DMN decision tables. Processes can be imported and exported as BPMN 2.0 XML for use with compatible modeling tools, and the runtime preserves state through approvals, timers, retries and exceptions.

Start with a recurring process that is harder to coordinate than it should be.
