What is Text-to-SQL?
Text-to-SQL is the conversion of a question written in ordinary language into a SQL query that a database can run. Today it is usually done by a large language model.
How it works.
The model receives the question and a description of the database, and produces SQL. The difficulty is not syntax but meaning: the query can run without error and still use the wrong join or the wrong definition of a measure.
Why it matters.
The value is clear, because people who cannot write SQL can ask questions of data. The risk is that a confident, wrong answer looks the same as a right one.
How Corlogic uses it.
Corlogic does not let the language model write the query. The model interprets the question as a structured request against the approved StarEngine model, and the remaining query path is deterministic: Corlogic applies the defined business logic and compiles exact, read-only SQL. If the model cannot support a question, Corlogic gives a specific reason instead of a guess.

Semantic layer
A semantic layer defines business terms and how they are calculated once, between raw data and the people or tools that query it.
